I’ll be explaining “The Noble Family,” a dark comedy from Mexico, today. Beware of spoilers! The Noble Family, a four-person family, serves as the film’s central character. Germán, the father, is a successful businessman from Mexico with three kids named Javi, Barbie, and Charlie. The children had been surviving off the proceeds of their mother’s trust fund ever since she passed away a few years ago due to a medical condition. They spend the money carelessly, throwing lavish parties, buying whatever they want, and taking several trips. Germán is concerned since none of them have ever worked a day in their life because someone will eventually need to take over his firm. Barbie, his only child, is in a relationship with Peter, a bankrupt businessman who is twenty years older than her.
He believes that by marrying her, he will be able to pay off his massive tax debt. Unaware of his true motivations, Barbie is smitten with him. Many workers arrive the morning of her birthday to decorate the home. She knows one of them as Lucho, their family maid’s nephew who had resided in the servant wing of their mansion. Barbie used to pretend to seduce Lucho when they were teenagers in order to upset him. She is unlikeable to Lucho due of her demeanour. The middle child, Javi, is revealed in the subsequent scene. He is the only child who has expressed a slight interest in succeeding his father in running the company.
While he’s not out having fun with his friends, he poses as an employee of the business. But all day long he does nothing but generate foolish and irrational notions. He advises they launch a petrol home delivery business that morning. Karim, Germán’s business colleague, makes fun of him for the ridiculous notion. Germán believes that by assigning Javi a more challenging task, Javi can gain confidence. He gives his kid a file that needs to be emailed the following day to a colleague. Then Charlie, the family’s youngest kid, is introduced to us. He is a college hipster who almost always misses class. Moreover, he harasses his teachers, for which he frequently receives discipline.
Like his siblings, he lives a partying lifestyle while wasting his parents’ money. Germán finds a bill for his children’s spending from the previous month when he is in his office. Karim cautions him against his children’s reckless spending habits after looking at the numbers. Germán is aware that he needs to teach them the value of money, but he is unsure of how. Javi ignores the fact that he was assigned a crucial assignment by his father that day and takes his pals on an unexpected trip to Miami. Barbie is having a birthday party in the evening. She begs Lucho to remove a stain from her dress when she spots him on the other side of the room.
Since their last encounter, Lucho sighs, thinking that she hasn’t changed one bit. Peter breaks off the talk as he notices that they are getting close. He asks to go to a private room with Germán and Barbie. Afterwards he requests Germán’s approval to wed his daughter. In response, Germán asks him how he intends to keep her happy without a job. They’ll utilise her trust fund, responds Barbie in an interjection. Germán disagrees with the marriage since he knows Peter is a bad person, but Barbie won’t budge. She just makes an announcement as she exits the building about her engagement to Peter and their impending nuptials.
Germán already worries about his daughter, but his worries increase when he learns that Javi skipped the crucial meeting to which he was delegated. Immediately after, he receives a call from Charlie’s college dean informing him that he was expelled for having sex with his teacher. Germán has trouble breathing as a result of his stress and is brought to the hospital. When his kids visit him, he makes up having suffered a heart attack. He expects the siblings to feel bad for bothering him so much, but to to his dismay, they begin to argue about a movie. When they depart, Germán sets out to either successfully or unsuccessfully impart a lesson to them.
He and Karim intend to send the three to live in the slums by pretending to be bankrupt. The next scene finds Charlie attending a meditation class, Barbie dining with a friend, and Javi celebrating with his buddies as usual. When Barbie tries to pay using her card, it is rejected. She has never faced a situation like this, therefore she is unsure of how to handle it. The brothers receive a call requesting them to return home right away at the same time. When they finally assemble at home, their phones have been disconnected, and a large group of people has gathered outside demanding money. They must jump over a wall to get away after Germán comes. When they are sufficiently away from the house, he explains that Karim defrauded him and took off with all of their company’s funds.
Germán is currently bankrupt and wanted for third-degree fraud. As the siblings are also the shareholders of the company, the authorities are seeking for them. This implies that they will have to lead a meagre life and avoid speaking to any of their family. The significance of the situation is finally understood by the siblings. They are taken to Germán’s father’s old house, which is not included in the company’s holdings. The house is in ruins and has obviously been abandoned for years. The three, who have only ever stayed in five-star hotels, are utterly appalled. According to Germán, as they accumulate wealth, they will eventually need to renovate it. They talk about money while eating bad street food for dinner.
Germán advises they work for the first time in their lives when they enquire about how they would get money. The next morning, when Barbie tries to take a shower, the tap only produces nasty, dark brown water. Instead, she sanitises her entire body with hand sanitizer. When their assets are unfrozen, Javi goes to his friends and asks them for money, promising to return it. The men who used to spend his money on parties, however, are unwilling to assist him. Barbie phones Peter from a different location and breaks the news that the wedding must be delayed. He is upset that he missed the opportunity to make money off of their condition when he had the chance after learning about it. Charlie is the sole person who goes job hunting.
He is able to quickly land a job at a bank at his father’s request. Because her niece was intended to fill the post, his supervisor is unpleasant to him. If he gives her the chance, she’ll fire him. The family gives Germán any cash they were able to gather when they get together at night. Barbie had made the most money, but it turns out that she bought it by selling Javi’s watch. Soon after, their devoted maid Maggie and Lucho show up to the house to provide assistance. They also send clothes for the family to change into. Barbie’s situation is used by Lucho to harass her, much as she did to him when they were teenagers. He gives her a job as a waitress at the restaurant he works at at his aunt’s request.
When Javi inquires about employment opportunities, he is offered the position of a public transportation driver. The next day is Javi’s first day of employment. Up until another car cuts in front of them and the driver makes fun of him, everything goes according to plan. Barbie visits the restaurant at the same time and is horrified to witness chefs spitting on patrons’ meals. She is forced to get dressed in a uniform in a communal locker area. Lucho retaliates by saying that due of her dislikeable disposition, everything she is currently going through is her fault. The siblings gradually begin adjusting to their new lifestyle by learning to cook and clean for themselves. Despite their initial difficulties, they soon master it. Weeks go by while Javi and a bus driver argue.
He tries to beat him to a parking spot one day, but the traffic cops stop him. Barbie does poorly as a waitress. She treats the disrespectful customers harshly, which makes them leave without making a purchase. She eventually picks up on flirting to get better tips. Charlie’s manager summons him to her office after he makes a mistake at work one day. She abruptly shuts the door and advises him to make amends by doing something right. They ultimately have sex at the workplace. Germán finds Barbie trying to induce vomiting one evening after dinner in order to maintain her weight.
He is shocked to learn that she has been doing it ever since she was a college student and was given a bulimia diagnosis a few years ago. Barbie laughs and says she didn’t expect him to care because he never had time for his kids. Germán becomes aware of how absent he has been from his kids’ life up to this point. Peter and his friend are conversing in another location about how he lost the chance to pay off his debts. Additionally, he tells the man the entire story of Karim’s bankruptcies and his theft of the funds. Karim is conversing with someone behind them, so Peter’s friend doesn’t trust him. Peter notices that something is off and begins to look into it.
Lucho and Barbie visit the market together the following day. They become closer as they shop for restaurant supplies and sample various street meals. When all of this is going on, Javi confronts the rival bus driver. When they learn that they have both read books by the same author, they abruptly stop. After speaking with one another, they discover that they both want to launch their own business. A few weeks later, the household makes enough money to afford home renovations. When they’re talking, Germán remarks on Javi’s poor spelling skills. Javi admits to having dyslexia and having had counselling for it.
When informed that he paid for the counselling sessions, Germán is rendered speechless. He regrets not being more involved in his kids’ life. The owner of the restaurant hosts a celebration for his staff the following day. Lucho and Barbie dance before exchanging kisses. Peter comes at their home at the same moment and introduces himself to Germán. He asserts that he is fully aware of all of Germán’s fabrications and makes a threat to tell his kids the truth. Germán asks him what he wants out of fear that they will despise him once they find out. Barbie sees them right when she gets home and sees them. Peter lets the family know that their bank accounts are operating normally now that Karim has returned with the money.
They can resume their previous way of life as a result. The ability to go back home has the siblings ecstatic. On the other hand, Germán is threatened into silence. Barbie greets Lucho outside as the family prepares to leave. She bids him farewell with reluctance and walks away. She feels that because Peter saved her in this predicament, she cannot desert him and go to Lucho. The following day, Germán visits Karim at his office and requests a solution. Although he wants to keep the information from his children, he will not at any cost permit Barbie to wed Peter. Barbie begins planning her wedding even though she is not particularly excited about it.
She only acts in this way because she owes Peter something. The next scene shows Peter and a lawyer in a meeting with Germán and Karim. Peter is given money by Germán in exchange for leaving Barbie’s life. Peter, though, is convinced that he wants to wed her. In the end, Germán is required to sign a document allowing Barbie’s husband to take as much money from her trust fund as he desires. Peter not being the aforementioned husband is still his hope. Germán goes to meet his family maid Maggie after the meeting. She tells him to be honest with his children since the longer he keeps it a secret, the harder it will be for them to forgive him. Germán determines to act morally because he trusts her.
He is not aware that Peter is making a proposal to his daughter in another location. He can’t wait any longer, so he asks her to sign the marriage documents right away. Barbie is anxious and doubtful of her want to marry him at all. She nevertheless goes to the city hall on his advice. Germán calls his sons and demands a quick meeting. Yet when he dials his daughter, Peter answers and ends the call. As Germán gets in touch with Barbie’s friend, he learns that she is engaged to be married. He rushes to the municipal hall with Charlie and Javi to stop her. They come just in time for her to sign the document and manage to stop her.
Finally, Germán admits that they were never insolvent and that he had lied to them in order for them to understand how challenging it is to make a living. He also admits that Peter has been extorting him and simply wants Barbie’s money. Because their father lied to them, the siblings are enraged. They simply go without exchanging words with him. They decide to move into the old house they were renovating after the commotion. They reject Germán’s assistance and instead to forge their own path in life. Although their father is not present, they put forth a lot of effort. Javi establishes a car wash with another bus driver.
Though they make attempts to reunite, he rejects them. In a similar vein, Charlie finds a partner who is his age and is content with her. Barbie starts dating Lucho after seeing him again. Everyone congregates at the home to celebrate Barbie’s birthday. Barbie answers the door to see her father standing outside after hearing a knock. He wishes her a happy birthday and turns to leave when his kids call him inside, bringing the family back together.
Here this movie ends.
Thank-you.
