I’m glad you’re here. Oren Uziel, who wrote the screenplay for Shimmer Lake, made his directorial debut with this 2017 Netflix crime drama. The movie is a masterful dark comedy told in reverse order about a bank robbery gone bad. The main actors in the cast are Wyatt Russell, Rainn Wilson, Stephanie Sigman, John Michael Higgins, Mark Rendall, and Benjamin Walker. Spoilers follow as we lead you through the Shimmer Lake narrative in chronological sequence and explain how the film ends.
Who killed Andy? The meaning of the Shimmer Lake ending.
The conclusion of the film Shimmer Lake shows that Zeke killed his brother Andy and has a tattoo on his arm. Steph and Zeke, who are responsible for the killings of Ed, Andy, Judge Dawkins, and Chris, seek retribution for the death of their son, Ed Jr.
What happened to Ed Jr. at Shimmer Lake?
Ed and Chris accidentally set off a meth lab explosion that killed Ed Jr. Ed is negligent enough to keep his youngster by his side as he is making meth in an unlicensed facility under unsanitary conditions. Later it is discovered that Ed Jr. is actually Zeke’s child with Steph and not Ed’s.
The Accident With Meth
Ed and Chris were meth cooks a few years prior to the events in the movie. Ed Jr. was sick with stomach problems, according to a call from the school. Steph was preoccupied at work, so Ed leaves to pick him up. Steph is unaware that Ed was taken by him to an underground drug lab, where Ed Jr. The laboratory blows up due to an accident. Chris’s brain is fried, Ed Jr. is slain, and Ed survives.

Shimmer Lake| Linear Plot Analysis: What transpired?
The movie played brilliantly in reverse. Although Memento and Irreversible have already done this, Shimmer Lake performed an excellent job of narrating a story backwards. I’ll summarise the events in a forward-looking manner for convenience of reading.
It seems that Steph has been making Andy think that she is interested in him for a number of months. Andy imagines that one day he and Steph will flee together and begin a new life. Ed, Chris, and Andy are gathered by Steph, who informs them of the bank heist and gradually gets them ready.
Tuesday
Steph gives Ed the option to leave. He will be put to the test to determine if he harbours any remorse at all. This sequence is significant since Ed doesn’t take the exit that is offered as part of the plan.
As Judge Dawkins owns the bank, Ed phones him and threatens him once more with a recording that reveals the Judge’s extramarital escapades with his gay boyfriend. The bank safe’s combination is disclosed by Judge Dawkins.
The night security at the bank is under the supervision of Zeke, the sheriff. The scene has a funny beginning and finishes with Ed’s horrifying demise. Zeke and Steph reveal that Ed Jr. is indeed their son and that Ed killed him.
Zeke anaesthetizes Steph’s hand before shooting him.
Ed is taken by Steph in his car to a lonely area, where they are both buried. The cash is kept by Steph.
Zeke, who is lying in Ed’s bloody pool, makes a backup call.
After hearing the gunshot, Andy and Chris leave, assuming that Ed misled them and stole their money.
Wednesday
Andy calls Zeke, and Zeke gets Andy to admit that he did accept a payment in exchange for dropping charges against Ed.
Steph contacts Chris and says she’s waiting at a motel with Ed and the money.
Steph claims to have the videotape and calls Judge Dawkins to the motel.
Steph seduces Chris at the motel to get him to put his pistol down. Chris is provoked to argue with the Judge when the Judge enters and takes Chris’ gun; as a result, the Judge shoots and murders Chris. The gunshots fired towards the bathroom would have also killed Steph given how thin motel walls are. She exits, though, unscathed.
Judge Dawkins is compelled by Steph to keep the money he takes back with him.
Thursday
Judge Dawkins calls home his gay boyfriend after sending his family to their vacation home.
Steph meets with Andy and tells him that Ed and Judge Dawkins are working together and that the Judge is the one with the funds. She leads him to believe that the two of them can run away as soon as Andy has the cash.
Steph injures her face and tells the police that Ed hit her after approaching. Also, she adds that Ed intends to travel to Mexico.
When Andy stumbles, the Judge is fatally wounded. After accepting the cash, he heads home.
Friday
His daughter spots Andy hiding in the basement. Zeke permits Andy to flee.
Andy contacts Steph as he leaves his car and informs her that he has the money and will meet her at Shimmer Lake.
As Zeke and Steph arrive at Shimmer Lake, they kill Andy and steal the money before leaving.
