An Introduction to The Door Into Summer

Intelligent young Soichiro Takakura has experienced tragedy in the past. His father passed away at the age of 17, and his mother before he was even born. He is then adopted by a family. Soichiro is taught everything there is to know about electronics and robots by his adoptive father, a robotics engineer. The family’s daughter Riko later develops feelings for Soichiro, but she keeps them to herself. Sadly, a car accident claims the lives of his adoptive parents as well. While Soichiro continues to live alone and inherits a piece of his adoptive father’s business, Future Works Enterprise, Riko moves in with her uncle Kazuhito (FWE).

As per his brother’s will, Kazuhito receives a third of the company’s shares in his name. Kazuhito uses his accounting assistant, Rin Shiraishi, to seduce Soichiro and obtain another one-third of the firm inscribed in her name as part of his scheme to acquire total control of it. Soichiro gives her the shares after falling for it.

After this, there are two ways to look at the story: from Soichiro’s (as the movie shows us), and from the perspective of the rest of the world. We’ll examine both viewpoints. Additionally keep in mind that there is only one timeline and one set of events between 1995 and 2025 in this movie. Nothing that happens during this time is changed in any manner.

The Door Into Summer| Soichiro’s Viewpoint on the Storyline

8th March 1995

Now that Kazuhito and Rin are significant shareholders, they cast the deciding vote to grant Mannix Enterprises the rights to the robotic designs and to deny Soichiro access to his own research. Everything in Soichiro’s house is taken by an FWE truck, which then drives away.

As Riko arrives and tells Soichiro she loves him, he tells her she should concentrate on her studies because she is still a young child.

Soichiro visits Credeus’ Cold Sleep office but is turned away because of his intoxication.

Later, Riko overhears Kazuhito and Rin discussing their plans for the Plasma Battery and flees for Soichiro’s house, but Kazuhito pursues her.

At Kazuhito’s, Soichiro arrives and threatens Rin, saying he will go to the media and reveal how he was duped. Soichiro gets diverted by Rin, who then injects him with a powerful medication. After clawing Rin, Pete-cat flees.

In a Cold Sleep capsule managed by a division of Mannix Enterprises, Soichiro awakens. Although Rin initially assisted them in evading taxes, they return the favour by independently managing Soichiro’s cryo-sleep.

8th March 2025

After 30 years, Soichiro awakens to learn that Mannix filed for bankruptcy a long time ago.

Unexpectedly, Pete, a humanoid nurse, is given to care for Soichiro. He will be known as Pete-bot.

Soichiro is told by the officials that Riko has been attempting to get in touch with him.

Pete-bot, who appears to be the first robot with artificial intelligence and is clearly self-aware, ignores his orders and departs with Soichiro, taking him to the location where Riko’s calls have been coming from.

It turns out that Rin has been calling pretending to be Riko because she is aware that Soichiro will only arrive in that manner. She claims that once she put Soichiro into Cold Sleep in 1995, everything went to hell. During that year, Kazuhito suffered a diabetic stroke, and a strange man bearing Soichiro’s stock certificates appeared, ruining everything for her. She also claims that Riko, who ran to Soichiro’s residence in the night he fell into Cold Sleep, vanished when the house exploded.

9th March 2025

Pete-bot and Soichiro arrive at Guardian Manufacturing, the business that purchased FWE. When they meet Gota Tsuboi, the president, he is in awe of Soichiro and claims that Soichiro inspired him to become an inventor. Gota says that Soichiro gave Aladdin (business) exclusive rights years ago, which confuses Soichiro because he doesn’t recall doing something like that. Finally, Gota brings up the fact that Professor Toi, another name Soichiro is unfamiliar with, was someone Soichiro had met decades earlier. He reveals that Toi was a frequent patron of his family’s eatery and was once detained for stealing university research funding.

Later, Professor Toi’s claim that time travel is conceivable is depicted in an ancient movie that Soichiro witnesses.

10th March 2025

After Soichiro entered Cold Sleep in 1995, Gota Tsuboi aids him in discovering that Taro Sato, who would later start Aladdin, was given the FWE stocks.

Also, Soichiro learns from the paperwork that he holds the patent for PETE-1, the first model, whereas Riko holds the patent for PETE-2.

Because it hasn’t happened to Soichiro yet, he is unable to recall any of this.

11th March 2025

Pete-bot and Soichiro are greeted by Professor Toi, who is standing by with a time machine. Toi reveals that Soichiro used time travel to make all of this possible. Toi hands Soichiro several gold bars, which have no value in 2025, and requests that Soichiro change them into cash in the past and send it to a younger Toi in order to support his time machine research. Toi also advises finishing the Plasma Battery design since the Time Machine depends on it. Toi uses time travel to bootstrap money for his own studies.

Soichiro is travelling across time with Pete-bot. I’ll call them Soichiro and Pete-bot from now on.

Explanation of "The Door Into Summer" Japanese Film

A lawyer named Taro Sato, who happens to be driving by, stops Pete-bot and Soichiro. Pete-bot demonstrates that they are from the future by exposing that he is a robot powered by a Plasma Battery while Soichiro* is unconscious. He gives Taro Sato all the information.

Due to a horrible accident, Taro’s wife Midori, a former athlete, is now paralysed and has consequently grown socially isolated. Time travellers’ arrival resurrects her as her former self, and Taro decides to provide a hand as a result. Taro has already cashed the gold before Soichiro* wakes up and set up a room so that Soichiro* may finish his research and create PETE-1.

1st March 1995

Professor Toi meets Soichiro* in the Tsuboi Restaurant. He explains that he is a time traveller from 2025 and that his theory of time travel eventually succeeds. Toi receives the cash from Soichiro*.

At the restaurant, Soichiro* promises the young Gota Tsuboi that he will one day be a renowned inventor.

Soichiro* asks Taro to pursue Rin Shiraishi and expose Mannix Enterprises for tax fraud. He requests that Taro create a new firm and patent PETE-1 and the Plasma Battery (Aladdin). In exchange, Soichiro* offers Taro the presidency of Aladdin and shares in FWE.

Taro and Midori are also asked to adopt Riko by Soichiro*.

2nd – 7th March 1995

As he keeps a low profile, Soichiro* completes the Plasma Battery and his PETE-1 prototype.

8th March 1995

The FWE truck carrying Soichiro’s research is intercepted and taken by Pete-bot*.

When Soichiro* visits Kazuhito’s home, he witnesses Rin assaulting his former self. Pete-cat is taken by Soichiro*, who then drives off in his truck.

Soichiro* meets Riko at his house. Pete-bot* follows suit. After blowing up his home, Soichiro* departs with Riko and Pete-bot. Riko is informed by Soichiro that he is from the future and must return.

Pete-bot* suggests that Riko stay with him.

For the Cold Sleep appointment that Soichiro had made, Soichiro* travels to Credeus. Note that Soichiro* is currently at Credeus, and Rin is putting him into a cold sleep in a Mannix subsidiary under duress.

8th March 2025

When Soichiro* awakens in 2025, Pete-bot* welcomes him (Pete-cat was in Cold Sleep too). The humanoid who waited 30 years is called Pete-bot*. Take note that Soichiro, who is awakening for the first time from Cold Sleep somewhere, is just being introduced to another Pete-bot.

Soichiro* discovers from a letter written by Taro Sato that Riko eventually graduated and created the PETE-2 model. She entered Cold Sleep in 2005 in order to awaken and be with Soichiro. After settling the issue of their age gap, Soichiro meets Riko and starts a new life with her.

Kazuhito and Rin double-team Soichiro, leaving him unable to function in his own group. Two men steal his research from him in a vehicle, which Pete-bot* intercepts and steals.

Due to his high blood alcohol levels, Soichiro is asked to return the following day after becoming drunk and going to Credeus to choose Cold Sleep.

Soichiro goes to Kazuhito’s house to threaten Rin, but she manages to get the better of him. It should be noted that they haven’t heard from the corporate truck carrying the study materials yet, and we now know why.

After clawing Rin, Pete-cat takes off. While keeping an eye on everything from outside the home, Soichiro* picks up Pete-cat and drives off in his truck.

Riko and Soichiro are introduced, while Pete-bot follows them with the vehicle. Riko is informed by Soichiro* that he is not the man she met earlier in the day but rather a time traveller from the future after he blows up his home.

Riko will be adopted by Taro and his wife. Riko is joined by Pete-bot.

Rin places Soichiro in a Cold Sleep state at a Mannix subsidiary facility.

Pete-cat and Soichiro* attend Credeus’ Cold Sleep per Soichiro’s appointment.
