Emerald Fennell is the writer and director of the 2020 crime drama Promising Young Lady; this is her first feature-length work. A 30-year-old medical school dropout who lives with her parents and can’t get over a painful event in the past drives her to seek revenge is the focus of the story. Carey Mulligan is the star of the Promising Young Woman cast, with Alison Brie (Horse Girl), Bo Burnham, and even Alfred Molina playing supporting roles. Although it’s a fantastic movie, the conclusion leaves you a little empty. Below is a brief synopsis of the movie Promising Young Woman’s narrative and its resolution.
Young Lady with Potential| Who is Nina? What has become of Nina?
Cassie considered Nina to be her sister-like best friend. Nina overindulges at a medical school party. She is not with Cassie. Al Munroe sexually attacks her there while Joe records it and the other male students laugh and joke about it. A group of male students decide to take her there.
Did Nina commit suicide?
Yes. As a result of the medical school’s viral video of Nina’s assault, Nina withdraws and finally kills herself out of embarrassment. Cassie drops out of school as well since she is unable to continue because of her grief.

Ryan took no action. Well, he did nothing except watch while Al beat up an extremely inebriated Nina. He had the ability to stop Al or Joe, but he chose not to do so because it was all just play to him.
Young Lady with Potential| Did Cassie Murder Anyone? Has She Murdered The Guys?
No, Cassie didn’t kill anyone; this is just what we’re led to believe. Only the names of the guys she terrified are listed in her book. Years after quitting medical school, Cassie works odd jobs and makes it a point to appear hopelessly inebriated at parties at night. Every time she does, a man approaches her seeming to be of assistance before attempting to exploit her predicament. Nina stops acting intoxicated after making sure the guy is suitably inebriated and threatens him in a crazy manner. Hence, he will be prevented from attempting to exploit any other inebriated women. With each appearance, Cassie changes her cosmetics to give the impression of a different woman.
Promising Young Woman| A Brief Synopsis
After years of living alone, Cassie moves in with her parents as a chilly adult who they are unable to encourage or persuade to find a better career (and leave home). Ryan meets Cassie by chance one day, and the two start dating. Cassie is unaware that Ryan was present when Nina was attacked.
When Cassie finds out that Al, who had previously left the nation to get married, is suddenly returning, she starts exacting revenge on each of the individuals accountable for Nina’s passing.
McPhee, Madison
After adequately intoxicating Madison, Cassie confronts her about Nina. Madison still thinks that Nina’s intoxication was her fault even after all these years. Madison has been taken to a hotel room, and Cassie has paid a man to act like they had sex there. Madison is pushed to experience the same pain Nina did while being unable to recall anything.
Walker, Dean Elizabeth
Elizabeth’s daughter is duped by Cassie into believing that her favourite boy band will appear at a diner. Cassie meets the dean on the guise of wanting to continue her study after leaving her there. Cassie lies, claiming that she left the dean’s daughter in the same room where Nina was assaulted and that several boys are currently attacking her daughter. This is done after establishing that the dean still believes Al’s job was more important than his punishment for what he did. Cassie reveals that the dean’s daughter is safe after persuading the dean to admit she was mistaken.
Jordan Green, an attorney
Jordan, who earlier pressured Nina to drop the accusations against Al, is introduced to Cassie. But, he apologies to Cassie and gets down on his knees, calling what he did to Nina a horrific crime. Cassie asks the thug who she had hired to beat the lawyer stupid to stop and extends her forgiveness to him.
Cassie moves on when Carrie meets Nina’s mother, who advises her to do so. She deletes her social media accounts and gives up on getting back at the person. Initiates a romance with Ryan for Cassie. Nevertheless, Madison just so happens to see Cassie and gives her a phone that contains the assault by Nina video. Cassie is shocked to see Ryan enjoying himself as a bystander in Nina’s film. Cassie makes the decision to carry out her plan of vengeance and asks Ryan, who has threatened him with the film, for the location of Al’s bachelor party.
Munroe, Al
As a stripper, Cassie shows up at the cottage. Everyone at the party is given narcotics, and she leads Al upstairs and restrains him to the bed before revealing her identity and attempting to tattoo Nina’s name on him. Yet when Al’s hands are free, he suffocates Cassie and kills her. WHAT?
Explaining Promising Young Woman’s Resolution| Did Cassie Mean To Die? How come she dies?
Cassie didn’t intend to pass away. Almost every observer questioned how she could die. The revenge story in this movie, however, is only partially effective. Al defeats Cassie and kills her after Cassie’s plot falls through. Al and Joe covertly set her body on fire. The conclusion of Promising Young Woman reveals that Cassie had previously sent Jordan the video informing him that she was on her way to the cabin and asking him to call the police if she disappeared. Jordan contacts the police as soon as Cassie’s parents report her missing.
How did Al Munroe fare?
Cassie’s charred remains are discovered by the authorities after they scout the vicinity of the cottage. You might be wondering whether burning a body completely destroys the DNA. Bone fragments will, therefore, have sufficient DNA to establish Cassie’s identity. Al should be detained as a suspect in Cassie’s murder based on the note and the video. Although there is no concrete proof that he killed her, the video and his past make it possible that even one of her hair follicles at the cabin may be used as evidence. Even if Al manages to avoid doing time in prison, his life is still in ruins.
Promising Young Lady’s Finale| Who Was the Texter?
Cassie planned these texts for Ryan in anticipation that she might not survive the cabin. She strategically sent her text on the wedding day in the hopes that her missing person report would result in the arrest on that day. Al Munroe’s arrest might have absolutely occurred the day before or the day after, but the movie dramatises the conclusion.
What became of Ryan? Does Ryan end up in jail?

She is aware that she constantly puts herself in danger, and she is aware that there is “a very, very significant probability” that she could pass away at Al’s bachelor party. Cassie, though, believes “it’s worth the great danger.”

As she was being choked by the pillow, I assumed Cassie would pretend to be dead. Al was yelling for her to stop resisting, but she wouldn’t. Cassie seemed ready to give up at that time and only wanted to fight till the end. Al was still handcuffed to her by one, so playing dead might have given her the upper hand once more.
Cassie was aware that entering a house full of men who would stop at nothing to protect themselves was a significant danger. I even believed Cassie had a camera hidden in her backpack that was live-streaming the incident so that Al could be removed as proof. I’ll admit that The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is where I got that. The film’s climax feels underwhelming after all the build-up, but I think it was on purpose. Not every vengeance story follows the plot precisely. Cassie made the most of her resources to plot and scheme, but she was only able to get so far. Every time she put herself out there, the outcome could have been tragic.
She had a backup plan because she was aware of what she was entering. But would Al and Joe be found guilty as a result of this? We are unsure.
