Rob Schroeder and Conor Stechschulte collaborated on the 2022 science-fiction psychological thriller film Ultrasound, which is based on the graphic novel Generous Bosom. A man who is caught in torrential rain and is looking for shelter in a house opens the film. The kind locals recommend that he stay the night at their home, and the movie spirals out of control from there. You’ll have to watch it to believe it; no, it’s not a slasher. Here is the Ultrasound movie’s narrative and conclusion explained; there will be spoilers after this.
Ultrasound Movie| A Brief Synopsis
In a nutshell, Art fooled Glen and Cyndi into thinking they were expecting a child in the movie Ultrasound. In order to help Senator Harris, he also brainwashed Katie into believing she was not pregnant. Harris would not have to face the public humiliation since Art planned to transfer the baby from Katie to Glen and Cyndi. From then, it is only reasonable to believe that Art had the intention of subduing more powerful employees until the one in charge.
While Art had intended for this to happen, he did veer off course and still succeed in his objective. So let’s do a linear breakdown of this film.
Detailing the plot of the film Ultrasound
Art is what? What is his goal?
The original scientist, Art, is researching ultrasonic frequencies and soluble mixtures to induce prolonged suggestion in humans (hypnotization). To practise his mind control techniques on people and find particularly susceptible victims to bring to his laboratory as [forced] participants for his studies, he also worked as a side gig as an entertainment under the name The Amazing Arthur.
Although it isn’t explicitly stated in the film, we can presume that he was aware of the full potential of his mind control techniques. What could be more powerful than having the most powerful people in the nation under your control?
To ensure that he is the only one to profit from the method, Art pretends to have a mental breakdown, destroys his experiment, and abandons it. Although it’s not depicted in the film, Harris, who is attempting to win reelection, bumps into him at some point.
And who is Katie? What does Art need from Senator Harris?
In the public eye, Senator Harris is portrayed as a devoted husband and father. However, he is secretly dating Katie. When Katie becomes pregnant with Harris’ child, the media can ruin his image. In his desperation, Harris visits Art and agrees to a plan to hypnotise Katie because he desperately wants the child to be taken away.
Katie gets hypnotised into thinking that she is not pregnant by art. Additionally, he persuades her to spend much of her time alone indoors without feeling the need to constantly calling Harris. In truth, Art impersonates Harris in the majority of the sequences in the movie where he and Katie are together. For this reason, Harris rushes to get Katie a drink, which facilitates the prolonged hypnotic state.
Art intends to keep Katie in this situation until she gives birth, at which point he will give the child to another couple. The intention is to completely obfuscate Katie’s knowledge of her pregnancy and delivery. We now come to Glen and Cyndi.
Described Cyndi.
Art has chosen Cyndi as a victim because of her mind’s propensity to be hypnotised by ideas. Although she is The Amazing Arthur’s assistant in our eyes, Art has probably had power over her for a long time prior to this. Glen will soon enter her life, and he is preparing her to fall in love with him. On the eve of a wedding, Art tells Cyndi to give Glen a letter with the number 909 and then go to one of the hotel rooms. It’s vital to remember that this is a research centre and not a hotel. Cyndi is in a hypnotic trance and thinks she is in a hotel room.
Glen, who is he?
He is one of Art’s many victims. Glen was chosen because his mind is also quite open to hypnotic ideas. As part of his act, Art hypnotises three men at the wedding reception. Glen, who follows the note to room 909, remains in a condition of suggestion while Art releases the others. Glen urgently seeks refuge in a stranger’s home when Art convinces him that his tyre has a hole in it (no. 909).
They are actually in a research lab when Art orders Glen to go into the next room and sleep with his wife. Because it is genuinely in the lab, Glen sees the food tray on the ground even though his mind—and that of the audience—ignores it. The movie’s opening scene is seen here.
What has Art done to Glen and Cyndi, and why? – Ultrasound Movie
The next thing Art does is trick Glen and Cyndi into thinking they have discovered genuine love in one other by convincing them both that Cyndi is expecting Glen’s child. What would happen when Cyndi is ready to give birth, as posed in the movie? There wouldn’t be a child. And that’s where Katie’s kid comes into play; Glen and Cyndi would be led to believe that the child they gave birth to is actually Katie’s child.
We must naturally believe that Katie can give birth in some shady, hidden hospital that would be pleased to legally adopt the child as Glen and Cyndi’s since Art is working with Harris.
Why does Art lose his mind and stop working on his experiment?
Art impersonates a mental breakdown so that only he is aware of the degree of hypnotism he is capable of. He keeps Glen and Cyndi somewhere else after removing them from the lab. He thinks Katie will give birth shortly, and Glen and Cyndi will get the child. After that, Art would earn Senator Harris’ favour, and from that point on, he would have access to bigger fish. Consider who you would choose to hypnotise if you had the power to make anyone do whatever you wanted.
What is Dr. Conners doing in the ultrasound movie?
Dr. Conners was Art’s collaborator on his experiments. When Art takes it apart, his research comes to a halt. Glen and Cyndi, Art’s victims, must be made available to Dr. Conners. He asks the military for money and makes a mind-controlling weapon promise; in return, they kidnap Glen and Cyndi. Dr. Conners uses Shannon to dissect Arthur’s ultrasonic frequencies and suggestion techniques. This is how Shannon collaborates with Glen and Cyndi in the movie. Shannon thinks her research is being done for therapeutic reasons.
Shannon is unaware that Dr. Connors has been successful in convincing Glen that his paralysis is caused by an unidentified yet physiological factor. Additionally, Connors hires outside medical professionals to examine Glen, and they all issue reports concluding that Glen is paralysed. Glen thinks he is at a hospital, where role-playing is being used to help him stand up again. However, role-playing is a component in reverse engineering.
Dr. Connors demonstrates to the military department how long Glen was able to remain under the hypnotic suggestion of Dr. Connors, believing his legs were paralysed. The physician also demonstrates how he can instantly awaken Glen from hypnosis using ultrasonic frequencies. The military is given their ideal weapon by Dr. Connors.
Whom does Art speak with regarding adopting parents?
Glen and Cyndi have been abducted by Dr. Conners, leaving Art without somebody to give Katie’s baby to. So he locates two adoptive parents who are happy with the papers being altered to make it appear as though the child is theirs and that Katie, the real mother, is not mentioned anywhere in the paper trail.
What does Shannon want, and who is she?
In order to reverse engineer Art’s work, Dr. Connors is collaborating with the medical assistant Shannon. Shannon genuinely thinks Glen is paralysed; she is unaware that Glen is in a condition of suggestion. She also thinks her art is solely therapeutic in nature. Shannon is horrified by Dr. Connor’s deception and how Glen and Cyndi are being used as test subjects to create this military mind-control weapon.
As soon as she convinces Cyndi that her high school instructor is not her boyfriend, Shannon is able to awaken her from Art’s hypnosis. Shannon makes the decision to set Glen and Cyndi free. No one can make you forget it, Shannon says Cyndi as she plays the sound of running water and asks her to meet her in the restroom. Likewise, if you ever sense that something is off. You’ll keep this tone in mind if you ever feel as though something isn’t right around you or you get a negative or suspicious vibe. She then hands Cyndi her access card and tells her to take Glen and drive away from the facility with it.
Glen and Cyndi’s attempted escape
Dr. Connors permits Cyndi to wheel Glen out because he knows Shannon will attempt to release Glen. Unfortunately for the two, Dr. Connors has given them the command to enter the car under the impression that they are driving, and then exit the car to return to the lab. The two have been hypnotically taught to believe that Shannon has set up a little hotel in the lab.
Glen and Cyndi are in the lab’s lower levels, where they mistake it for a hotel, and Dr. Connors is working on new research there. The doctor does not, however, foresee Cyndi’s escape route, which Shannon has provided. When Glen and Cyndi give contradictory accounts of how they first met (at home versus a hotel), Cyndi senses something is off and hears flowing water. She is startled out of her hypnotic trance as she opens the tap and learns that she never left with Glen.
When Shannon finally notices the rental car is still outside the building, she descends to the lower floors and confronts Dr. Connors. Glen and Cyndi join Shannon as they flee after Shannon breaks the glass. Glen’s thinking is confused when he sees Art and the hotel lobby as they leave, but Cyndi is unhypnotized. Glen even discovers the lottery ticket Art previously convinced him was in his sock inside the automobile.
End of Ultrasound Film Explanation
The conclusion of the film Ultrasound reveals that Senator Harris is now under Art’s mental control, while Cyndi and Katie appear to be free of it and Glen is still in a state of hypnosis. ART HAS WON!
Did Shannon, Glen, and Cyndi succeed in getting away?
Shannon looks to have been successful in freeing Glen and Cyndi. Just like she’s helped Cyndi break free of all hypnotic restraints, she could do the same for Glen, too… unless… Dr. Connors has put Shannon herself into a hypnotic suggestion condition. Shannon may very possibly uncover the basement lab if he could foresee her organising Glen and Cyndi’s escape.
Observe the rain hitting the car’s windows as well. The raindrops on the windscreen appear vertical when Cyndi and Glen think they are driving away. If the drips were in a moving car, they would flow at an angle. Shannon supposedly leaving with Glen and Cyndi in her car gives off a similar impression. They might all be in a hypnotic trance and destined to be lab rats as a result.
What was Art doing on stage when Senator Harris was present?
In the film’s last scene, Art demonstrates how he was able to seduce Senator Harris using his ultrasonic technique. Even as Art tries to explain that it was just hypnosis, Harris beats Art earlier in the film because the senator believes that Art truly did sleep with Katie. Art is on stage at the felicitation playing with his ear (sound device) despite Harris’ warning to leave town. This demonstrates Art’s ability to exert mental control over the Senator, who would have otherwise ordered Art off stage.
How did Katie fare in the ultrasound?
Katie is aware that she is pregnant and has come out of her hypnotic suggestion state. She quietly tells her mother this over the phone. The ultrasound machine is obviously unplugged. Katie doesn’t seem to have been able to complete this on her own. Therefore, Senator Harris has presumably disconnected the device and provided her a justification for why she became pregnant at once; this accounts for her composure while on the conversation. Another possibility is that Art did anything to persuade Katie to explain her pregnancy in a way unrelated to Harris. Who cares if Art? Well, Art needs Harris to continue serving as a senator if he plans to utilise him as a stepping stone to higher office.
