On January 22, 1932, Rosetta Jacobs gave birth to Piper Laurie in Detroit, Michigan.

At the age of 17, Universal Studios signed her and gave her the name Piper Laurie.

With the character of Margaret White, Carrie White's fervently devout mother, in the horror classic Carrie, Laurie made a comeback to acting in 1976. For her work, she received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
